Reinvent learning for the 21st century with a hybrid between online and offline approaches.
In 2013, we launched an experiment to find out if 8-year-olds could teach themselves computer programming. We started a Code Club at the public library in Mesa, Arizona, put up some posters, and by the second week we had more young coders than we could fit in the computer lab. One fundraiser, a couple news articles and a few months later, we were working with 40-50 kids each week and expanding to other libraries.
Our immediate goal is to get Code Clubs running in every public library in the U.S. In the process, we are refining a model of self-guided, technology-enabled, project-based group learning. This model – a hybrid of online and traditional learning – will change the way learning happens in the 21st century.
